Running team rounds

Once the teams are set up and a pairing system is chosen, each round follows the same loop. Most of it mirrors an individual event; this page covers what is specific to teams.

Line-ups

A team’s line-up for a round is the order in which its players occupy the boards — board 1 is the top board.

  • By default it is the first N players of the roster (where N is the number of boards per team), in roster order.
  • You can override the line-up for a given round — for example to rest a player or field a reserve. Gaps are allowed.

Check-in

Teams check in as a unit before they can be paired — checking in a team marks it present for the round. You can do this from the admin screen or from a dedicated check-in screen on another device.

Pairings and the match

Generate the round’s pairings as usual. A team pairing is a match: a set of boards between two teams (or, under Molter, individual boards across teams). Colours follow the system.

Entering results

Enter each board result; the match result aggregates automatically into game points — and match points on the systems that have them. As in an individual event, players can enter their own board results from a screen, and the arbiter confirms.

Byes

  • Pairing-allocated bye (PAB) — with an odd number of teams, Team Swiss gives one team a bye each round. Its score is configurable (see Scoring).
  • Manual byes — the arbiter can give a team a half-point (HPB), full-point (FPB) or zero-point (ZPB) bye for a round, subject to the tournament’s bye permissions.
